Dental Technology
Advanced Dental Technology – Mount Prospect, IL
The Best Treatment Results Using the Latest Technology
As a periodontal specialist, Dr. Khan has always been committed to providing detail-oriented dental care that yields the best possible results for her patients. That’s why she has invested in the latest technology in her field, including a 3D cone beam CT scanner, soft tissue laser, and much more. Each of these instruments allows our team to streamline your visits and consultations, as well as precisely plan procedures for optimal outcomes. Read on to learn how our advanced dental technology in Mount Prospect makes your appointments easier for you as well as for our team!
CT/Cone Beam Scanner
Our CT cone beam scanner (CBCT) is a special type of X-ray system that allows our team to capture 3D images of your entire facial structure. This allows Dr. Khan to view your teeth, soft oral tissues, facial nerves, and bone density in a single scan that only takes about 30 seconds to capture. The process is comfortable and fast, and we often use this technology to plan dental implant placements and other surgical treatments.
Soft Tissue Laser
We utilize our soft tissue laser for crown lengthening, gum grafting, and laser gum disease treatment to help remove overgrown and severely damaged gum tissue. It’s a pen-shaped device that emits of beam of light from the end of it, removing soft tissue while cauterizing the area on-contact. It minimizes bleeding and kills bacteria, making each treatment pain-less and faster, and it reduces healing time and risk of post-op complications.
Digital Dental Impressions
Typically, dentists capture impressions using a piece of putty that they place in your mouth. Not only can this be uncomfortable by leading to gagging, but it also doesn’t provide as detailed of impressions as our digital system can. Dr. Khan will wave a short wand around your mouth, capturing and creating a photo-realistic, colored digital model of all of your teeth and gums. We can then send this off to a dental laboratory to craft lifelike prosthetics, mouth guards that fit perfectly, and even show you the results of the treatment you’re considering.
Intraoral Cameras
Intraoral cameras are especially useful during examinations, allowing Dr. Khan an up-close view of hard-to-see areas of the mouth. The small camera can be maneuvered around your mouth to view live video footage and still images on a large, chair side monitor. Not only can this help our team diagnose harder-to-see issues, but it also acts as a wonderful educational tool so we can better explain why we’re recommending certain treatments.
Digital Dental X-Rays
In the past, dentists would utilize film X-ray imaging systems to view the area of the mouth that lies below your gum line. Today, we use digital technology instead, eliminating the waiting period of developing the film and reducing radiation exposure by over 80%. Our digital dental X-ray system works similar to a digital camera - your dental assistant will snap the photos, and they’ll be immediately viewable by Dr. Khan.
